Fong Lun Association 羅省鳳倫公所

The Fong Lun Association is a joint-surname organization founded in Los Angeles’s Old Chinatown in 1938. It is composed of members with the surname of Sit and Seto (Soohoo), many of whom have been living in Los Angeles since the early 20th Century. Like many other family associations, the Fong Lun Association acted as a hub for clansmen to gather and socialize, offering each other support during hard times.

This foundation was particularly critical during World War II, where many young Sit and Seto men enlisted in the United States army. After rapid expansion in the 1950s, the Fong Lun Association would officially join the CCBA and funded the construction of its own new building in the 1960s. Moreover, in 1967, they created a scholarship fund for outstanding students, and founded the Girls Auxiliary and Youth Council in the 80s. Today, Fong Lun has transitioned to become a bilingual association in response to younger generation leadership. Along with recreational activities for members, including the annual Spring Banquet, picnics, and other holiday festivities, leaders in Fong Lun have also actively documented and preserved their history through the association’s library.  They also have since expanded relationships across the Pacific, connecting with Sit and Seto relatives from across Asia. These connections culminated in 2015,  when they hosted, in L.A., the 9th World Fong Lun Conference.
