SUMMARY:Where You Stand: Chinatown 1880 to 1939
DESCRIPTION:WHERE YOU STAND: CHINATOWN 1880 TO 1939\n(你所處的位置: 唐人街 1880 年至 1939 年)\nWaiting Room Gallery\nVisit the new exhibit in Union Station. CHSSC provided support for this project. \n \nUnion Station stands at the site of Los Angeles’ original Chinatown. This once vibrant community of families\, businesses\, and associations with roots going back to the middle of the 19th century was a place where the Chinese community and Chinatown persisted\, grew rapidly\, and thrived. Where You Stand: Chinatown 1880 to 1939 invites participants into the center of the vibrant community of families\, businesses\, and associations through a multi-dimensional experience of the Chinese immigrant community of early Los Angeles. \nView historic photographs\, listen to oral history recordings\, and use augmented reality to see artifact materials superimposed onto other locations around Union Station.

SUMMARY:Rural Chinatowns and Hidden Sites
DESCRIPTION:REGISTRATION open NOW! \nRegister at: \nhttps://1882foundation.org/event/rural-chinatowns-and-hidden-sites-conference/ \n \nThe 1882 Foundation and the Utah State Historic Preservation Office are cosponsoring a conference about U.S. Chinatowns in rural and remote places—and the haunting landscapes and streetscapes preserved in their place. Many are abandoned ghost towns; others are archeological sites with few aboveground remains. They present fascinating histories of boom and bust\, angst and exclusion\, and triumph and resilience—as well as enormous preservation questions and opportunities. \nJoin us in Salt Lake City for two days of paper presentations and one day of touring—either to the ghost town of Terrace\, Utah\, or to the Golden Spike National Historical Park.  For those interested in coming early (June 18)\, staff of the FamilySearch Library will provide an orientation to the library’s resources—with a focus on Asian resources. \nThe presentations will be far ranging\, covering Chinatowns from the northwest to the southeast U.S. that were spawned by railroad construction\, mining\, agriculture\, and more. Discussions will capture social issues\, including women and labor history; discrimination and violence; and the ongoing search for equality and acceptance. Innovative methods for presenting these histories to the public\, integrating vanished histories with typical preservation programs\, and exploring this past through film\, oral histories\, and archival collections will also be featured. \nPaper sessions will be held at the FamilySearch Library at 35 North West Temple Street. The conference hotel is nearby at the Salt Lake Plaza SureStay Hotel\, 122 West South Temple. For a discount\, mention this conference when you book a room at https://www.bestwestern.com/en_US/book/hotel-rooms.53045.html?groupId=T85KH3P6.
